Stuffed Sage Meatballs

This gourmet recipe is the perfect combination of flavorful meatballs with a surprise cheesy center. These meatballs are made with a mixture of ground beef or pork, shallots, garlic, and fresh sage, rolled around gooey mozzarella cheese and then coated with flour before being browned on the skillet with a flavorful mix of beef broth and marinara sauce. These meatballs are perfect for a family dinner, a party appetizer or even as a main dish served over pasta.

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb Braveheart Black Angus beef

  • 2 shallots, finely diced

  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh sage

  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs

  • 1 egg

  • Salt and pepper, to taste

  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/4 cup olive oil

  • 1 cup beef broth

  • 1 cup marinara sauce

  • 1 cup diced mozzarella cheese

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef or pork, shallots, garlic, sage, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, and pepper. Mix well until all ingredients are evenly distributed.

  2. Take a spoonful of meat mixture and roll it into a ball. Make a small indentation in the center of the ball and place a small piece of mozzarella cheese. Roll the meatball again to fully enclose the cheese and shape it into a smooth ball. Repeat until all the meat mixture is used.

  3. Place the flour on a plate, and roll each meatball in the flour to coat it evenly.

  4. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add the meatballs and cook for about 5 minutes or until they are browned on all sides.

  5. Reduce heat to medium-low and add the beef broth and marinara sauce. Cover the skillet and simmer for about 15 minutes or until the meatballs are cooked through.

  6. Serve the meatballs and sauce over pasta or with a side of crusty bread for dipping. Enjoy!
