Red Wine Steak Marinade

When it comes to classic dinner combinations, red wine and steak are an iconic pair. A glass of red wine and a well-cooked steak are definitive staples of a classy evening.

However, these two aren’t just good next to each other. With a few simple steps, they come together to create a unique and delicious culinary experience. All you have to do to enjoy it for yourself is make a red wine steak marinade.

A red wine steak marinade delivers the distinct taste of red wine to your steak without overpowering its natural flavor. Additionally, this marinade is incredibly easy to make, as its ingredients are some fairly common kitchen staples.

The Marinade Process

A marinade is a sauce that adds flavor to a food. It sounds like what any sauce does, but unlike a regular one, marinades don’t go on cooked food. Instead, you place your food into the marinade, allowing it to sit for a while before taking it out and then cooking it.

Marinating foods, especially meats, allows for the acidity in the marinade to not only add flavor, but also tenderize. Marinated meats end up far more tender than unmarinated ones. This makes marinating a process that can change how you experience eating steaks entirely.

Wine itself is already a common tool used by chefs in the kitchen. It’s used to enhance the flavors of the foods it’s cooked with. Turning it into a red wine steak marinade is simply another way to do this.

What Wine Should I Use For My Marinade?

There are different kinds of wine that are used in cooking, with some being specially made for it. However, these wines aren’t always good for drinking by themselves. For a red wine steak marinade, you will want to use a red wine that you would naturally pair with a steak. A few examples of good wins for your marinade are cabernet sauvignon, zinfandel, and merlot.

When deciding on your wine, it’s important to remember that expensive isn’t always better. So long as you know it tastes good, you won’t need to empty your wallet to find a good red wine for your marinade.
