Hibachi Steak Marinade

Steak is a versatile meat that can be prepared and served in a variety of ways. One of the most delicious ways to cook a steak is through the hibachi method. Hibachi steaks are steaks that are cut into cubes and cooked on a flat surface in Asian stir fry sauce.

You don’t need to be an expert chef putting on a fancy show at a steakhouse to cook a hibachi steak. So long as you have a decent wok or cast-iron skillet, you’ll be able to serve hibachi steak. One way to bring out the most flavor in your steak is with a marinade.

If you want to take your steak grilling to the next level, using a marinade is the way to go. Let’s take a look at what a hibachi marinade is, how to make one, and how to use it for your hibachi steak.

What is a Marinade?

Like any sauce, marinades are used to add specific flavors to foods. What makes a marinade different, however, is that instead of using it after the food is cooked, a marinade is used beforehand. To use a marinade, you soak the food in it for a certain period of time. This allows the marinade to not only flavor the food, but also tenderize it.

A marinade is primarily made of an acid, like vinegar or wine, an oil, and something to add flavor. How long you choose to marinate your food is up to you, but longer times add more flavor to your food. It’s even possible to marinate your food overnight in the refrigerator.

Hibachi Steak Marinade Recipe

This recipe is written to produce enough marinade for ½ pound of steak. If you need more or less, you will need to adjust the ratio accordingly.  You will also need to marinate your steak for at least half an hour before continuing on to cook it.

Recipe and Instructions:

  • 1/4 cup soy sauce

  • 2 green onions, chopped

  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced

  • 3 tbsp honey

  • 2 tbsp sesame oil

  • Mix your marinade together in a bowl or plastic ziplock bag

  • Add steak to marinade and let sit for at least 30 minutes (place in refrigerator if you are marinating overnight)

After you marinate your steak, you’ll cook them on your skillet or other suitable flat surface. Since hibachi steak is usually cut into bite-sized cubes, the meat will cook quickly. With this recipe, you’ll be able to bring the deliciousness of a Japanese steakhouse right to your home kitchen!
