Bistek Tagalog

Bistek Tagalog (also known as Filipino beef steak) is a traditional Filipino dish that is packed with flavor. This unique recipe requires few ingredients, but offers rich, delicious flavor. It is such a fun dish to add to your weekly menu and is perfect for beginner at-home chefs due to its simplicity. You will be hooked on this flavorful dish after just one bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 Braveheart Top Sirloin Steak, thinly sliced

  • 1 small onion, sliced into rings

  • 10 garlic cloves, thinly sliced

  • 6 tbsp fresh lemon or lime juice

  • 6 tbsp soy sauce

  • 1 ½ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp garlic powder

  • 1 tbsp onion powder

Directions

  1. Heat oil in a large skillet on medium high heat. Add thinly sliced steak and sear for 1-2 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  2. Add oil and onions to a pan and caramelize for 10-15 minutes. Remove from the pan and set aside.

  3. Add oil to the pan and add sliced garlic. Cook until garlic is aromatic, making sure to scrape up the brown bits at the bottom of the pan for flavor.

  4. Add steak to the pan and season with black pepper, soy sauce, and lemon juice. Mix well and add water to the pan until the steak is covered. Cook uncovered until the liquid has evaporated.

  5. Add garlic powder and onion powder and mix well.

  6. Add onions to the pan and mix well.

  7. Serve bistek tagalog over rice (or by itself) and enjoy!
