Immerse yourself in the rich, savory taste of seasoned ground beef, perfectly complemented by the subtle sweetness of cabbage. This recipe pays homage to the classic flavors while adding a modern twist that will surprise and delight your palate.

Ingredients:

For the Cabbage Rolls:

  • 1 head of green cabbage

  • 1 pound (450g) Braveheart Black Angus beef

  • 1 cup cooked rice

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 egg

  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika

  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano

  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme

  • 1/4 cup milk

For the Sauce:

  • 2 cans (14 ounces each) crushed tomatoes

  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste

  • 1/2 cup beef broth

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil

  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions:

1. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove any damaged outer cabbage leaves and then immerse the entire head of cabbage into the boiling water. Allow it to boil for about 2 minutes, or until the leaves become soft and pliable. Use a pair of tongs to carefully remove the leaves and place them on a clean kitchen towel to drain and cool.

2. Once the cabbage leaves have cooled, use a knife to trim away the thick stem from each leaf, making them easier to roll.

3. combine the Braveheart Black Angus ground beef, cooked rice, finely chopped onion, minced garlic, egg, salt, pepper, paprika, dried oregano, dried thyme, and milk in a large mixing bowl. Mix until all the ingredients are well combined.

4. Take one cabbage leaf at a time and place a small amount of the beef and rice mixture (about 2-3 tablespoons) in the center of each leaf. Fold the sides of the cabbage leaf over the filling, then roll it up, tucking in the edges, like you would with a burrito. Repeat until all the filling is used up.

5. heat a bit of oil over medium heat in a large saucepan. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and sauté until they become translucent and fragrant.

6. Stir in the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, beef broth, sugar, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, and pepper. Bring the sauce to a simmer, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 10-15 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld together.

7. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).

8. In a large baking dish, spread a thin layer of the tomato sauce on the bottom to prevent sticking. Place the stuffed cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish. Pour the remaining tomato sauce over the top of the cabbage rolls.

9. Cover the baking dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 45-60 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender and the beef filling is fully cooked.

10. Serve your Beef Stuffed Cabbage Rolls hot, garnished with fresh herbs if desired. Enjoy your delicious homemade meal!
